KIMBALL, Neb. The Kimball Bakery has a new Owner and a new name.
The Kimball Bakery Featuring Merrycakes will sell cupcakes, cookies and candies.
New Owner Mary Sue Gates had a prior business hobby called Merrycakes and was a Hospice Nurse for several years.
Once this building became available, Gates jumped on the opportunity.
“It’s just something that needed some love,” said Mary Sue Gates, Owner. “People in the community did not want to see it close. I remember when the Gordon Bakery closed in Gordon, Nebraska where I am from and it was sad when that closed. I didn’t want to see the Kimball Bakery close.”
Along with the purchase of the building, renovations are in place.
They are adding new flooring, dry wall and painting the walls pink and white.
The flooring will start tomorrow while the dry wall and painting will start this weekend.
Gates says the community has been nothing but supportive even when she was nervous about opening a business.
“Just encouragement from the community, belief in myself, belief in my partner Amie, my vision for the Bakery and for the community,” explained Gates.
Along with Amie believing in her passion, Gates has other influential women in her life.
Gates’ mother purchased her first cake decorating set at the state fair in the early 1970s.
Her grandmother Me-Me used to bake with Gates’ every Saturday morning.
Her friend Diane is very influential with her dreams and her daughter Whitney is in charge of her branding and website.
Kimball Bakery Featuring Merrycakes will be open during the week from 5:30am to 12:00pm and often in the afternoons.
